PLEASE DON'T ASSUME HERE THAT I OWN GUNS. I DO NOT OWN A FIREARM, NOR DO I HAVE NEED TO PURCHASE AMMUNITION. To an un-thinking soul, this legislation and one like it (Illinois HR-4269) sound like a good idea. But that is as far as it goes.
Consider the following hypothetical situation. "Joe", goes to a "rifle" state once a year for a deer hunt with a few friends. He bags his deer with his carbine. Joe has a legitimate need for high-power ammo, and he has complied with all the regulations surrounding it. He even keeps the ammo locked away in the gun safe.
Joe has a break-in. All of his guns are reported stolen, along with the ammo. All of the serial numbers have been recorded. Joe is safe.
"Dyslexic Dirk", got a data entry job with the state, and recorded all of Joe's ammo serial numbers with 2 characters flipped.
Six months go by and Joe has managed to re-assemble some of his valuable collection. Nothing has been recovered though, and there has been no contact with the authorities. Except for early one morning when...
The state police knocked the door off its hinges as they came in, and Joe in self defense fired off two rounds before he hit the floor. One officer and Joe both lay injured and bleeding.
The back story is that Joe's thief used Joe's ammunition in a holdup. The state police tracked the ammunition to Joe. In the state's eyes, Joe had knocked over a convenience store, and they had their man.
Is this the State of things to come, or what?
You have to make your own conclusions about legislation like this. I and many others, think this legislation is wrong.
Keep thinking about the image at the left.

From the BBC, Thursday, March 6, Seminary students killed by gunman.... gunman killed by student.....
"The gunman entered the library at the Mercaz Harav seminary on Thursday evening, where about 80 students were gathered, and fired an AK-47 rifle for several minutes, witnesses say.
One of the students, Yitzhak Dadon, reportedly shot the gunman twice before he was finally killed by an off-duty Israeli army officer, who had gone to the school after hearing gunfire.
"I shot him twice in the head," he told the Reuters news agency.
"He started to sway and then someone else with a rifle fired at him, and he died.""
I KNOW THE POLITICAL SITUATION IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THERE, BUT, APPARENTLY A GUN-TOTING STUDENT CAN BE A GOOD THING. WE AMERICANS DON'T HAVE A CLUE.
THat's an xlnt example of a scenario that could play out!
Thanks for posting it.
As to the previous comment - yes, different situation. they should let the Palestinians be armed with other than rocks vs. the Israeli weapons of tanks, apache helicopters & f-15 fighter planes, plus a nuclear arsenal of 100s. the israelis would end the occupation immediately and there would be peace.
amen.
